Verb Forms: Three Forms of Verb in English Grammar

three forms of verb

There are three verb forms in English: the base form, the past tense, and the past participle.

In order to make a verb into its past tense form, you add -ed to the base form. To make it into its past participle form, you add -en or -ed (in most cases).

For example, to make “walk” into its past tense form, you would add -ed (walked). To make it into its past participle form, you would add -ed (walked).

Here is a list of some regular verbs in their different forms: walk – walked; eat – ate; read – read; write – wrote. There are also irregular verbs which don’t follow these rules.
